Biopulse '08
Biopulse ’08marked the 4th anniversary celebration of the School of Biotechnology. The chief guest for the function was Prof. P. Balaram, Director, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, who is one of the most renowned scientists in India today. Other special invitees were Prof. .P. Venkat Rangen, Vice Chancellor, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Mr. D. Bhatnagar, Advisor, TIFAC, DST, Govt. of India. The morning session was initiated by prayers & lighting of the lamp by the guests which was followed by the welcome address by Dr. Bipin Nair, Dean, School of Biotechnology, who highlighted the achievements of the School. This was followed by a message from Dr. Venkat Rangan, Vice Chancellor, Amrita University who emphasized the significance of true values in education, some of the limitations of modern technology and the benefits of receiving guidance from Self Realised Masters like Amma. Mr. Deepak Bhatnagar expressed his heartfelt admiration for the achieveme nts of the School in both Academics and Research. He said that Amrita is living upto the vision of the Mission Reach programme, thus bearing testimony to the TIFAC-CORE status conferred on it. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. P. Balaram whose talk entitled “Protein Chemistry linked to Pathological Conditions” gave us an insight into the history of Protein Chemistry, major advances in the field and applications of Mass Spectrometry in unraveling protein structure anomalies.
The occasion also marked the release of the School magazine by Prof. P.Balram. This is the very first magazine of its kind in the country that is printed on eco friendlypaper. The second issue of the news letter of the Society forInter Disciplinary Biology – ALTUS, was also released by Dr. Venkat Rangan. The interesting & informative morning session was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Anil Kumar leaving indelible impressions in the mind of one and all. A lively variety entertainment program, complete with skits, dances & music was also organised by the students of the School to celebrate the occasion.
